EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's fencing team earned two wins on Saturday at the Northwestern hosted Schiller Duals.
The squad nabbed wins over Wheaton (20-7) and Lawrence (18-9), while falling to Incarnate Word (14-13), Notre Dame (19-8), and Stanford (18-9).
SABRE
Six WSU student-athletes competed in the sabre on Saturday.
Hunter Battisfore (Hancock, Mich. / Houghton) finished the day with a 3-3 bout record, including a 2-1 mark against Lawrence.
Gabriel Dumoulin (Newtown, Conn.) notched a 6-5 ledger, with a 2-0 performance vs. Wheaton and a 2-1 mark against Notre Dame.
Brendan Goeddeke (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Warren De La Salle) impressed with a 5-1 record, going 3-0 against Lawrence.
Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt / European International School of Alexandria) posted a 7-3 ledger with a 3-0 record against student-athletes from Notre Dame.
Gwyd Perry (Bloomfield, Mich. / Bloomfield Hills) nabbed a 2-2 record, while
Connor Desautels (Redding, Conn. Joel Barlow) went 3-5.
FOIL
Finn McIsaac (West Bloomfield, Mich.) went 5-5 in the foil, including a 3-0 ledger during bouts against Incarnate Word.
Lukas Tsao (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) earned four bout wins, going 2-1 against Wheaton and UIW.
Mitchell Gatrell (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill) saw action in the foil as well, posting a 3-9 mark, going 2-1 against Lawrence.
Jakub Oronowicz (Clarkston, Mich.) went 2-5 in foil bouts, earning both of his wins against LU.
Sam Gneuhs (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) tallied a 2-2 record, earning wins during bouts vs. Lawrence.
EPEE
In the epee,
Mahmoud Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt / El Nasr Official Language School) collected a 10-3 record, including 3-0 marks against Wheaton, Stanford, and Lawrence.
Shuayb Dinkins (Kissimmee, Fla. / Lincoln Park / Celebration) notched a 7-4 record that included a 3-0 record Wheaton.
Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis.) posted a 6-7 record in the epee, while
Justin Chenh (Falls Church, Va.) went 2-6.
