CANTON, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's golf team claimed the top spot among nine squads following 18 holes at Walsh's Cavalier Fall Invitational on Thursday afternoon at Glenmoor Country Club. The Warriors carded a 13-over 301, 14 shots better than Kentucky State in second place, and boasted four of the top six individuals.
Andrew Daily (Brighton, Mich.) garnered Medalist Honors, the second tournament title of his career, and did so with an even 72 in the field of 51 total players. Daily couldn't have asked for a better start to his round as he birdied two of the first three holes and five of the first seven. He was joined in the top four by teammate
Josh Lahner (Roselle, Ill. / Lake Park) in second as well as
Ethan Mukhtar (Farmington Hills, Mich. / Orchard Lake St. Mary's) and
Jack Julian (South Lyon, Mich.), both of which tied-for-third.
"We battled through some tough weather early," said head coach
Mike Horn. "The boys really had a tough go to start, but battled back on the back nine and really played solidly coming in. This was a good test on a tough golf course with tough conditions. Proud of Andrew for his win and good job to everybody battling to the end. We've got stuff to clean up, but winning is always good."
