NASHPORT, Ohio -- Competing at Virtues Golf Club as part of Ashland's 15-team Crossroads Cup, the Wayne State University men's golf squad finds itself in fifth place through the first two rounds of play. The Warriors carded a 19-over 595 (292-303) on Monday, 10 strokes out of the two-way tie-for-third between Ferris State and Cedarville.
"We are a little off in the last week," said head coach
Mike Horn. "It started on Thursday, where we didn't play exceptionally well, but managed to squeak out a victory. It continued today with most everybody being off and not being able to get on track. The exception was Jacob (Palomares) who had a solid day all the way around. We're making far too many double bogies or worse, you can't win anything by doing that. Conversely, the leader of the tournament, Ashland, only made one double bogey and we made 19. This is something we've been working on, but hasn't sunk in yet. If we don't change our mentality about getting in trouble on the golf course and getting out of trouble, we will continue to make these mistakes. I certainly think we will start improving on that tomorrow. Also, a very good round by Luke (Maher) in the afternoon today. This has not been Warrior golf in the last week. We are grinding through it right now and we will get it right."
