Men's Golf Wins Pawleys Island Beach Bash; Lahner Claims Individual Crown

The Warriors had four finishers in the top 10 for the two-day event.

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. -- The Wayne State University men's golf squad claimed overall victory at Ohio Dominican's Pawleys Island Beach Bash on Tuesday evening at The Founders Club at Pawleys Island. The Warriors' six-over 294 for the afternoon was enough to maintain its lead acquired on day one of the event to top the 17-team field with a total two-round tally of 580 (+4). Individually, Josh Lahner (Roselle, Ill. / Lake Park) claimed individual honors with a tournament-winning score of two-under (142).

The Green and Gold claimed its second overall victory of the 2025-26 season with the triumph, following a win at the Motor City Shakedown on September 30, 2025, which was hosted by WSU. Wayne State has now been among the top-five finishers in all six of its tournaments across the fall and spring combined.

Lahner's individual victory, which came by one stroke over second place, was the first of his collegiate career. The junior's previous best finish was a tie for eighth during the Motor City Shakedown on April 1, 2024.

"This victory was for Coach Horn, since he was not able to be here!" said Volunteer Assistant Coach Chad Johnson. "Very proud of the guys for hanging in there and getting the win. Their preparation was key this week. They fought hard the entire back-nine to win by seven shots. Big shout out to Josh Lahner for securing the individual victory! Also, some great playing by our freshman Will Pollack, Luke Maher in his first start as a Warrior, and Troy Chapman."

Wayne State will be back in action in just under two weeks at Findlay's Spring Invite, which will be held in Richmond, Ky., at Boone's Trace National Golf Club. It will once again be a two-day event between Monday, March 23, and Tuesday, March 24.
