AUGUSTA, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's golf team tied-for-third among nine squads following two days and 54 holes of play at the 2026 GLIAC Stroke Play Championship on Friday at Stoatin Brae Golf Club. The top two, Grand Valley State (-37) and Davenport (-3), proceeded to face off for the Medal Match Play Championship later in the afternoon.
"A very disappointing three rounds overall," said head coach
Mike Horn. "We had it going at times, but could never sustain it. Once we would get some momentum, we would do something silly and make a bogey on a par five or three putt. The foundation is laid for lots of success the next couple of years, but we've got to prepare better and we've got to execute better. Congratulations to the team's competing in the championship, Davenport and Grand Valley State, who played excellent. I look forward to the (Midwest/Central) Super Regional if we get a selection, which I am confident that we will. Congratulations to
Andrew Daily on his sixth-place finish."

Next up on the schedule will be the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday April 26. Wayne State was ranked eighth in the Midwest Region for the most recent regional rankings released on Friday, April 10.
The NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. Ten teams from the South, Southeast, West, South Central, Midwest and Central regions, seven teams from the East Region, and 13 teams from the Atlantic Region along with the top four individuals not with a team from all eight regions will be selected to compete in one of four 54-hole regional tournaments.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two individuals, not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the NCAA finals. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, as defined in this manual. Tiebreakers and playoffs will be used to determine individual and team champions, and advancement to the finals.
At the finals, all 20 teams and eight individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of stroke play, an individual champion will be declared along with finishers 2-10 based on cumulative total score and any applicable tiebreakers. The top eight teams after 54 holes of play will be placed into a bracket and seeded based on 54-hole scores. The pairings for the quarterfinals will be Seed 1 versus Seed 8, Seed 2 versus Seed 7, Seed 3 versus Seed 6 and Seed 4 versus Seed 5, competing in head-to-head medal play (stroke play over 18 holes and low score wins).
For the 2026 championships, regional allocations to the finals are as follows:
- South/Southeast: 7 berths
- Midwest/Central: 4 berths
- West/South Central: 6 berths
- Atlantic/East: 3 berths
