Women's Track And Field Continues Indoor Season At Mike Lints Alumni Meet

Sumrall and Williams each win two events.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad continued its season on Saturday at the GVSU Mike Lints Alumni Meet.

EVENT WINNERS
Freshman Mattie Drennan (Clarkston, Mich.) won the 3000m race by clocking in at 11:01.49.

Senior Kaleigh Flowers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / East Kentwood) won the shot put with a throw of 12.14m.

Junior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) won the long jump (5.44m) as well as the triple jump (11.22m).  Her long jump mark of 5.44m was the second-best in program history.  The top mark of 5.69m was set by Jessie Kluz on Dec. 10, 2016, at the Findlay Oiler Opener.  Williams' triple jump distance of 11.22m was fourth-best in school history.

Junior Makayla Sumrall (Roseville, Mich.) won both the 60m dash (7.71 / 7.70 in prelims) and the 200m dash (25.73).

The 4x400m relay quartet of senior Yasmine Affes (Northville, Mich.), sophomore Abigail Dunn (Northville, Mich.), freshman Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) and freshman Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.) won the event in a time of 4:03.88.

OTHER TOP FINISHERS
In the weight throw invite section, Flowers finished fourth (16.35m), while senior Izzy Taylor (Three Rivers, Mich.) placed sixth (15.08m) and junior MaKayla Rawls (Detroit, Mich. / Birmingham Seaholm) was seventh (15.01m).  Flowers toss of 16.35m was fifth-best in program history, while Taylor's 15.08m was seventh best.

Freshman Reagan Justice (Canton, Mich. / Salem) finished second in the 3000m event (11:01.65).

Senior Aliyah McDonald (Kingston, Jamaica) finished second in the 60m hurdles (9.11) after winning the prelims, placed second in the 60m dash (7.93 / 7.90 prelims), and also finished as the runner-up in the 200m dash (26.02).

Sophomore Mikaela Owen (Bridgman, Mich.) finished third in the 200m dash (26.16), fourth in the long jump (4.92m) and tied-for-fourth in the 60m dash (8.13 / 8.08 prelims).

OTHER RESULTS (ALPHABETICAL)
Affes finished seventh in the 200m dash (26.88).

Freshman Robin Bresolin (LaSalle, Ont./ St. Thomas of Villanova) placed 27th in the mile (5:29.74).

Freshman Jasmine Correa (West Olive, Mich. / Holland West Ottawa) placed third in the shot put (11.35m) and fifth in the weight throw (12.58m).

Freshman Kynnedee Cowles (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) finished sixth in the 800m run (2:24.98).

Senior Ashley Defrain (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) finished 32nd in the mile (5:36.26).

Dunn finished 16th in the 200m dash (27.89).

Sophomore Emily Esker (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) was 28th in the mile (5:30.53).

Freshman Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.) placed 20th in the mile (5:18.53).

Justice finished 12th in the mile with the sixth-fastest time in school history at 5:10.80.

Kutcha placed 15th in the 200m dash (27.88).

Senior Teanna McCuaig (Sparta, Mich. / Kent City) finished seventh int he weight throw (12.35m).

Freshman Kay-Lee McSwain (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) placed fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.37), eighth in the 60m dash (8.31), and 12th in the 200m dash (27.71).  Her time of 9.37 in the finals of the 60m hurdles was tied-for-eighth fastest in program history.

Freshman Lexi Movsesian (Macomb, Mich. / Lutheran North) placed 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.41m, which ranks eighth in school history.

Junior Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.) finished 26th in the mile (5:28.48).

Freshman Parys Smith (Keego Harbor, Mich. / West Bloomfield) finished fifth in the 60m hurdles (9.65) and 10th in the 200m dash (27.58).

Taylor finished 11th in the shot put (8.65m).

Sophomore Jillian Vera (Saugatuck, Mich.) finished 36th in the mile (5:51.57).

Wellner placed eighth in the 60m hurdles (9.86) after a prelims time of 9.75.  She finished 13th in the 200m dash (27.75).

The "B" relay 4x400m group of Cowles, Esker, Gordon and Ray placed fifth (4:20.36), while the "C" contingent of Bresolin, Vera, Defrain and Drennan finished eighth (4:37.21).

Wayne State will compete next Friday (Jan. 28) and Saturday (Jan. 29) at the SVSU Jet's Pizza Invitational.
