Women's Outdoor Track and Field Competes At OU Golden Grizzlies Invite

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad competed on Friday and Saturday at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Invite.

200m Dash
Senior Aliyah McDonald (Kingston, Jamaica) led a quartet of Warriors finishing sixth in a time of 26.67. Freshman Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi) placed ninth (26.98), while senior Yasmine Affes (Northville, Mich.) crossed the finish line in 27.09 for 11th place. Sophomore Macie Ries (Mason, Mich.) clocked in at 29.25.

400m Dash
Kutcha posted the eighth-best time in school history and finished second in a time of 1:00.38.

800m Dash
Freshman Emily Gordon (Northville, Mich.) finished fifth in a time of 2:21.17, which was the sixth-fastest time in program history. Freshman Kynnedee Cowles (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) placed 11th in 2:25.94, while sophomore Emily Esker (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) finished 17th in 2:28.62.

1500m Run
Junior Katherine Ray (Novi, Mich.) placed 10th in a time of 4:57.13, while junior Thailyia Christensen (Flushing, Mich.) finished 11th in 4:57.53. Senior Ashley Defrain (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern) and freshman Robin Bresolin (LaSalle, Ont.) placed 14th (4:59.83) and 22nd (5:13.81), respectively.

5000m
Freshman Mattie Drennan (Clarkston, Mich.) finished 11th in a time of 18:42.49, while senior Chloe Wandell (Muir, Mich. / Ionia) placed 20th (19:57.00).

100m Hurdles
McDonald finished third in a time of 14.92 in the finals. Freshman Kay-Lee McSwain (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) placed sixth in the ninth-best all-time mark of 15.80. Freshman Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.) finished ninth (16.60), while classmate Parys Smith (Keego Harbor, Mich. / West Bloomfield) placed 10th (16.73).

400m Hurdles
Wellner finished second by clocking in at 1:05.72. Sophomore Abigail Dunn (Northville, Mich.) finished fifth (1:06.83), while Smith finished 13th (1:18.27).

4x100m Relay
The WSU quartet of Wellner, McSwain, Smith and junior Morgan Witzgall (Auburn, Mich. / Bay City Western) placed fourth in a time of 51.42.

High Jump
Junior Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) placed second at 1.60m, which was the third-best mark in school history and the best mark by a Warrior since April 6, 2019.

Long Jump
Witzgall took first place with a distance of 5.61m, while Williams was third (5.43m). Witzgall's distance of 18-05 was the third-best mark in program history.

Triple Jump
Williams garnered first place at 11.16m, while Witzgall finished third at 10.95m, which was the sixth-best mark in school history.

Shot Put
Sophomore Kaylee Price (Brownsburg, Ind.) finished 11th (10.79m), while freshman Jasmine Correa (West Olive, Mich. / Holland West Ottawa) plcaed 17th (10.47m).

Discus
Correa placed fifth (38.97m), while Price was 16th (31.82m). Correa's mark of 127-10 was the third-best in program history.

Javelin
On Friday afternoon, senior Izzy Taylor (Three Rivers, Mich.) finished sixth with a toss of 28.94m, while classmate Teanna McCuaig (Sparta, Mich. / Kent City) was 12th (25.76m).

Hammer
Also on Friday, Taylor's sixth throw was her best at 43.80m to finish seventh. Senior Kaleigh Flowers (Grand Rapids, Mich. / East Kentwood) placed 10th at 42.57m, while McCuaig had a best toss of 35.89m.

Wayne State will be participating in the Buckness Bison Outdoor Classic this Friday (April 15th) and Saturday (April 16th).
