ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad had a very successful meet yesterday at the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies Invitational which was held at the
Elaine Leigh Track and Field Complex.
Five all-time top 10 marks in program history were set in the meet, including
Keneisha Thomas (7th in 100m hurdles),
Peyton Hansen (8th in javelin),
Nicole Warren (8th in triple jump),
Mikayla Williams (9th in javelin), and
Gracie Klink (tied-for-9th in high jump).
Other top performances were
Reagan Justice winning the 5K as the Warriors took five of the top six spots. Warren finishing third with the aforementioned triple jump mark, 4x100m relay placing second,
Emily Gordon finishing third in the 800m run, along with
Katherine Ray and
Thailyia Christensen placing second and third, respectively in the 5K.
Quoting Coach Lofdahl
"The outdoor meets at Oakland have become increasingly competitive over the last few years, and this meet was excellent. We've been traveling quite a bit, so it's really nice to find that level of competition 30 minutes from campus.
"Our field eventers had a really solid meet, with javelin being the prime example.
Mikayla Williams made her debut in the event, and is now in our all-time top-10 in four different events with a throw of 31.15 meters!
Peyton Hansen had a breakthrough day as well with a 32-meter throw.
Nicole Warren had a big PR in triple jump going over 35 feet (10.69m), with
Morgan Witzgall right behind with a 10.54m jump.
"Our 4x100 relay A team had a rough day and did not finish, but our B squad of Modock, Bennett, Johnson, and Coates stepped up big-time, taking second place overall.
Keneisha Thomas broke the 15-second barrier in the 100m hurdles, and
Richelle Cotter had a nice PR race as well.
Renae Kutcha led the 200m runners with her first sub-26 second performance.
"
Emily Gordon had a nice run in the 800 taking third place, and our 5K crew did a great job with
Reagan Justice getting the win and
Robin Bresolin and
Sarah Greb setting new PRs.
"We will head out west this coming week with our top athletes, while most of the team gets a break from competition before heading back to Oakland in two weeks. We're excited to see how much stronger this team can become over the next month!"
