Academic Success Winter 2022

General Jeff Weiss, Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Media Relations

Another Stellar Semester In The Classroom for WSU Student-Athletes

DETROIT -- The student-athletes at Wayne State University continue to excel in the classroom.  Forty-nine (49) student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.00 term GPA with over 76 percent of Warrior student-athletes receiving above a 3.00 for the Winter 2022 semester.  The entire student-athlete population posted a 3.29 term GPA, with a cumulative GPA for all student-athletes at 3.38.

"I know in athletics you see a lot of numerical and statistical comparisons, but here is one that is significantly aligned ... our latest graduation rate for student athletes in the federal NCAA report has WSU at a seventy-six percent (76%) graduation rate and this past term seventy-six percent (76%) of our student athletes also had a grade-point average above a 3.00 with more than one in two (54.94%) having a GPA above a 3.50," stated WSU Director of Athletics Rob Fournier.  "That is impressive ... especially when you look at our outreach as measured by the NCAA Helper Helper program (which helps student-athletes track their community service involvement) and the unparalleled competitive success of our spring sport programs anchored by men's tennis."

"A special acknowledgment to women's golf, who again topped all programs with a term GPA of 3.91, followed by volleyball at 3.73 – both coincidentally teams that advanced to the NCAA postseason.  Credit should also go to our academic team – Dr. Candice L. Turner, Kim Clexton, Kelsey Voss and Kayla Papp, who have organized an outreach initiative and support system that addresses a range of challenges for our student athletes."
