Biography


Michael Chan begins his fourth season as head athletic trainer and eighth season overall at Wayne State University. He is responsible for all aspects of the sports medicine program, including preventative training, first aid, injury management, and rehabilitation.

Chan joined the WSU staff in the fall of 2002 as an assistant athletic trainer after working the previous two seasons as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Syracuse University while completing his master[apos]s degree in exercise science. Prior to his graduate work, Chan was an intern at MedSport, a University of Michigan Health System sports medicine clinic, located at Domino Farms in Ann Arbor, Mich.

He received a bachelor[apos]s degree in biology from the University of Western Ontario in 1996, and a B.S. in sports medicine from Central Michigan University in 2000.

Chan is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), Michigan Athletic Trainers Society (MATS), College Athletic Trainers Society (CATS) and the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association (GLATA). Chan is also a member of the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and is a certified Performance Enhancement Specialist.

He was born in Taipei, Taiwan, but grew up in Toronto, Ontario. Chan and his wife, Sora, reside in Wixom.
