Biography


Shad Smith, an employee of the Oakwood Health System, joined the Wayne State staff as an assistant athletic trainer in September 2006.

Smith came to WSU after spending 10 months as an athletic trainer at the IMG Academy/Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida. Prior to that he was an assistant athletic trainer at Detroit Country Day for over two years.

He has also served as an athletic trainer at the Henry Ford Center for Athletic Medicine and as an athletic trainer at Hiawassee Junior College in Tennessee.

In May of 2007, he spent over two weeks as an athletic trainer at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. working with the members of the track and field, bobsled, luge, archery and field hockey teams. He also served as the athletic trainer for the 2007 men[apos]s national fastpitch softball team selection camp.

Smith hopes to attend the Olympics either in 2012 in London, England, or the 2014 games in Sochi, Russia.

The Liberty, Ind. native, graduated in 1996 from Ohio Northern University with a degree in sports medicine and health.
