Paul Schmidt begins his fifth year in 2006 as head athletic trainer for the Warriors. He is responsible for all aspects of the sports medicine program including injury prevention and management, first aid, injury rehabilitation and drug and alcohol education. Prior to his arrival at Wayne State, Schmidt was an assistant athletic trainer at Syracuse University from 1996-2002. At SU, he was the head trainer for the men[apos]s lacrosse team and assistant trainer for football. A 1992 graduate of Northern Illinois University, Schmidt earned his MS in exercise physiology from Syracuse in 1996. Schmidt is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers[apos] Association (NATA), the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association (GLATA), the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society (MATS) and the College Athletic Trainers Society (CATS). He is also a certified instructor for the American Red Cross. Schmidt is single and resides in Ferndale.
