Bianchi, a native of Milano, Italy, lettered four years on the men's fencing team at Wayne State University. During his four years, Bianchi earned six NCAA All-American honors and graduated with a 4.0 grade point average.
Bianchi earned varsity men's fencing letters in 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985 while amassing an exceptional record of 52-6. In 1983 he recorded a 19-5 record, in 1984 he had only one loss versus 18 wins, and in 1985 he was perfect with a 15-0 record. He also captained the team in 1983, 1984, and 1985.
In 1984 and 1985, Bianchi strove to perfection by winning the NCAA epeé championship both years and earning NCAA First Team All-American honors. In addition, he also helped the Tartars to four NCAA team championships in 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985 and garnered two more NCAA First Team All-American honors in 1982 and 1983.
In addition to his excellence in the playing arena, Bianchi also excelled in the classroom. Bianchi graduated from Wayne State with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, was on the Dean's list all eight terms, and received his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration while majoring in Finance. From there, he received his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Washington while working full-time for Microsoft.
For his academic excellence, Bianchi was named to the NCAA Academic All-American team in 1985, and received the NCAA post-graduate scholarship award. He also received the Wall St. Journal Student Achievement Award and the Memorial Fink Scholarship Fund both in 1985. In addition, Bianchi served as President for one year of Detroit's Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter in 1985.
In Italy, Bianchi also excelled in fencing by becoming a four time member of the Italian National Team while finishing in the "Top Six" five times in the individual Italian national championship.
Bianchi was attracted to WSU through the fencing team's somewhat informal world-wide recruiting network. A former NCAA fencing champion from WSU, Gil Pezza, talked to Bianchi while both of them resided in Italy. Bianchi was told about scholarship possibilities at WSU, decided to send an application and the rest is history.
After serving ten years at Citigroup (formerly Citycorp) as first a Senior Account Officer and then Vice President of the venture capital, and securities market in New York for over ten years, Bianchi is currently Senior Vice President of Pain Webber Incorporated.
