Since 1969, Christ Petrouleas has been a fixture in the Wayne State University athletic department. Petrouleas' association (as a student, coach, or administrator) with WSU spans six decades and two centuries. He graduated with his bachelor's of science degree in physical education in 1963. The Detroit native started in the athletic department while working as a graduate assistant within the department and assistant baseball coach in 1969. The following year Petrouleas was named the facility and program supervisor, a position he held for four years. Then, in 1974, Petrouleas became the fifth head baseball coach in WSU history. His Tartar teams compiled a 120-137 record in six seasons. At the time, Petrouleas had the most victories by any Wayne State baseball coach and his win total currently ranks third in the baseball program's history. He was named the coordinator of all sports under the Health & Physical Education department in 1979. He spent a majority of the 1980s in an assistant athletic director capacity. For two and a half years (1988-1990), Petrouleas filled in as interim Athletic Director and then moved into the assistant athletic director position. In 1995, he was promoted to associate director of athletics, a position he held until his retirement in 2000. Saving the football program twice and starting the endowed scholarship program with Fred Mulhauser highlighted Petrouleas' legacy as an administrator. "I'd like to thank the board. This is quite an honor and I appreciate it very much." Now retired, Petrouleas lives with his wife, Judy, in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan.
