Guy Lumsden was a three-time All-American swimmer from 1940-44. He was the NCAA National Champion in the 50-yard freestyle in 1940 with a time of :23.1. Also in that meet, he finished fourth in both the 100-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Lumsden won All-American honors in the 50 free (1940), the 400 free relay (1941) and the 50 free again in 1941. Prior to his collegiate career, in 1936-37, he was the Detroit City Champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. In 1944, his last collegiate season, Lumsden was the National AAU 300 meter relay champion. He captained his team in 1942 under Leo Maas.
