David C. Farris was honored in 1994 with the inaugural Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame Honor Award.  The award is presented to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in assisting Wayne State Tartar Athletics.

Farris was the Tartars' head football coach from 1981 to 1986.  In 1980 he was the team's offensive coordinator.  During his tenure as head football coach, Farris was instrumental in generating over $100,000 per year to maintain and improve the Tartar football program.  He helped create and implement a variety of fund raising activities, including the very successful Football Club Golf Outing.

Upon leaving Wayne State in 1987, Farris became the head football coach and a teacher at Petoskey High School in Petoskey, Mich.  He and his wife, Jane, reside in Petoskey with their son, MAx, and daughter, Amanda.
