Hall of Fame
Jennifer L. (Daniel) Coleman, a four-year softball letterwinner (1992-1995) at Wayne State, has been selected for induction into WSU's Athletic Hall of Fame. She will be the seventh WSU softball player inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
In her first season, she earned NCAA All-Great Lakes Regional honors and the following year was named to the NCAA All-America Third Team after being voted to the All-GLIAC First Team. Daniel was second on the 1993 squad with a .366 batting average and was also named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team. Her .410 slugging percentage in 1994 is tied-for-fifth best in a single season at WSU.
She served as team co-captain in 1994 and was selected to the All-GLIAC Second Team that year.
Daniel tied the WSU single-season mark with 27 sacrifices during the 1992 campaign and ranks third all-time in that category with 51. She earned the team's Defensive Player of the Year Award as a freshman after recording eight outfield assists from her centerfield position.
A threat on the base paths, her 10 stolen bases (out of 10 attempts) in 1993 ranks as the fifth-highest season mark in school history (second highest mark at that time). Her 21 career stolen bases are tied-for-fifth highest in WSU annals.
Daniel is also listed in career records for games played (ninth with 214) and runs scored (12th with 88). She had 182 hits in 612 at-bats for a .297 career batting average. She concluded her career with 33 assists from the outfield and a .940 fielding percentage with 282 putouts.
During her career, WSU compiled a 153-67 mark (.695 winning percentage) and won four consecutive GLIAC titles (53-17 conference record).
A 1996 WSU graduate with a degree in management, she helped the Tartars advance to the NCAA Division II regional playoffs three straight years.
She graduated from Romulus High School in 1991 and currently resides in Lake Orion, with her husband Fred and children Jacob and Jadyn.
