Sue Verbeem was a four-year softball letterwinner (2003-06), who twice earned All-Region accolades and was a three-time First Team All-GLIAC selection at shortstop.
Verbeem concluded her Warrior career first in fielding assists (457) and doubles (58), second in home runs (21), games started (211) and double plays turned (28), third in total bases (365), slugging percentage (.521), runs scored (147) and at bats (701), fourth in fielding chances (942), fifth in hits (238), sixth in walks (48), seventh in RBI (103), and ninth in batting average (.340). She had 64 multiple-hit contests.
As a senior, Verbeem was a Second Team NFCA All-Great Lakes Region selection after recording a hit in 45 of 56 games and leading the squad with 18 multiple-hit contests. She hit .400 (6-for-15) in the GLIAC Tournament with two home runs and seven runs scored. Â
Verbeem batted .357 with a team-best 15 doubles. She also led the squad in runs scored (45), hits (66) total bases (99) and fielding assists (116), while tying for the team lead in home runs (6).
In 2005, Verbeem finished in the top 10 in the GLIAC in batting average, hits, doubles, total bases, runs scored, on-base percentage and slugging percentage and leading the team in all those categories. Â
A 2004 NFCA Great Lakes Region First Team honoree, Verbeem started all 58 games at shortstop and led the team in runs, hits, doubles (tying the single-season school record), total bases and at-bats. She also tied for team-high honors with 18 multiple-hit games. Her 135 fielding assists were the second highest single-season total in school history.
As a freshman in 2003, she started all 55 games at shortstop and batting leadoff. She hit two game-winning home runs against Grand Valley State in the NCAA Regional to earn All-Tournament Team accolades and propel the Warriors to their first ever appearance in the College World Series.
She led the squad in runs scored (41), hits (62), RBI (36), home runs (10), batting average (.332), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.572) and multiple-hit games (17).
During her career, WSU compiled a 128-85-1 overall record (.600 winning percentage) with a 55-23 mark in the GLIAC (.705 winning percentage) with one regular-season title, and two runner-up finishes.
A native of LaSalle, Ont., Verbeem was a 2005 GLIAC All-Academic Team honoree, and a five-time member of the Academic Honor Roll.
