Bruce P. Davis was a three-year fencing letterman at WSU from 1957-59. He was the individual NCAA foil champion in both 1957 and 1958. In 1959 he placed third in that same event. Davis was also an NCAA All-American all three years. He captained his team in 1959 while becoming the Presidents Athletic Conference foil champion. He was also nominated to the United States Olympic squad in 1959 but was not selected. Along with his collegiate competition at Wayne State, Davis also competed for the Amateur Fencing League of America (AFLA) in the State of Michigan. He was second place in the Midwest in the epee weapon in 1955. From 1955-1967, Davis placed 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in both epee and foil in Michigan. He also fenced while in the service from 1953-1954 for the Texas Border Division. A native Detroiter, Davis attended Cass Tech High School where he majored in aeronautics. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Wayne State in 1959. Davis also earned a Master's Degree in public health from the University of Michigan in 1963. Davis worked as a Public Health Engineer for the Wayne County Health Department. He also coached the Cavaliers, a small fencing club, in the Livonia-Canton area.
