Mitch Ritter will be the sixth recipient of the Athletic Hall of Fame Honor Award, which recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in assisting Wayne State Athletics.

After being a football student-athlete (1967-71), he initiated the development of the Athletic Alumni Association (AAA).

His singular initiative led to a fully sanctioned group that now represents over 1,300 alums.

He has been actively prominent at various sporting events, university functions and outside activities seeking new members and serving as an ambassador for the athletic department.

He has been a leader in the creative formation of Doc Andrews Night, Alumni Reunions and Football Futures Day.

He initiated and guided the AAA through the process of formal alumni office adoption including the creation of bylaws and operating codes.

He holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s of education from WSU and has worked in the Clintondale Community School District for 38 years as a teacher, coach, and athletic director including the last eight as assistant superintendent.

Ritter also served eight years on the WSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and is currently Vice-President of the WSU National Alumni Association.

He and his wife Angie have three children.
