Ziad Elsissy, who was a four-time fencing letterwinner (2015-18), was a three-time All-American and a two-time national runner-up in the sabre (2017 and 2018). He garnered Second Team All-America recognition with a seventh-place finish in 2015.

He finished with a program record of 332 victories in the sabre, which included NCAA Midwest Regional titles in 2015 and 2017, a runner-up finish in 2018, along with a third-place finish in 2016. Elsissy went a combined 34-8 at the NCAA Midwest Regional competition during his four seasons.

At the NCAA Championships, Elsissy went 19-6 (+41 in touches) as a senior. The previous year, he went 16-9 at NCAAs and was +30 in touches. In his first NCAA Championship in 2015, he compiled a 14-9 mark and was +19 in touches. In his three NCAA Championship appearances, Elsissy went 49-24 and was +90 in touches. He missed the 2016 NCAA Championships to compete at a qualification event for the Rio Olympics.

After compiling a 56-16 record as a redshirt freshman in 2014-15, Elsissy won 74 of his 82 bouts the following year. In 2016-17, including the NCAA Championships, he went 100-16 and improved to 102 wins as a senior.

The Alexandria, Egypt, native reached the No. 1 ranking in the world in 2024 and has competed in the last two Olympics finishing fourth in the men's sabre at the 2024 games in Paris. In other international competitions, Elsissy won the African Zone Championship (2023), the Arab Championship (both individual and team in 2023), the Mediterranean Sea Championship (2022) and was the World Championship bronze medalist in 2023.

Academically, the Mechanical Engineering major was a two-time CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-American receiving Second Team honors in 2018 after being a First Team selection in 2017. Elsissy earned Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) recognition seven times in his 10 semesters at WSU.  The 2017-18 WSU Male Student-Athlete of the Year was a three-year recipient of the Division 2 Athletic Director's Association Academic Achievement Award. He received a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from WSU in 2021.
