Hall of Fame
Lambros Milanos was honored in 1996 with the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame Honor Award. The award is presented to recognize individuals who have distinguished themselves in assisting Wayne State Tartar Athletics.
In large part the success of the Athletic Hall of Fame is due to Milanos. As a graduate student in the university's Master's in Health and Physical Education program in the mid-1970s, Milanos developed a historical review of Wayne State's intercollegiate athletics program that became the foundation of his master's thesis.
Through diligent research and work, Milanos documented the athletes, coaches and administrators who were a part of Wayne State's athletics program from its inception in 1917 until 1975.
Milanos then served as the Hall's only historian, continuing to provide research and supporting documentation on candidates for induction. Sadly, he is being honored psthumously today (April 27, 1996). Milanos passed away on April 5.
A longtime teacher who recently retired from the Detroit Public Schools, he is also a former employee in Detroit's Parks and Recreation Department. Milanos is survived by his two children, Elias and Stacy, his former wife, Georgiana, and his brother, Charles.
Milanos is the second recipient of the Athletic Hall of Fame Honor Award. The first recipient was David C. Farris, Coach of Football, in 1994.
