Mary Rogers, the top free throw shooter in women's basketball history with 323 made foul shots, joins the Wayne State University Athletic Hall of Fame. She played off-guard and wing for the Tartars from 1988 through 1992. Rogers' junior year was her best, which included an 18.6 scoring average, a GLIAC Player of the Week honor, All-Northern Kentucky Classic selection and All-GLIAC first team selection. She also broke the school scoring record her senior year and is third in all-time field goals made with 505. As two-time team captain, Rogers became the eighth Tartar to score over 1,000 career points. She netted a career-high 29 points against Oakland University and scored in double figures in 26 of 27 games during the 1990-91 season. Rogers finished her career starting in 91 of 107 of the WSU games and totaled 1353 points and 480 rebounds in four seasons. After completing her undergraduate degree in journalism in 1993, Rogers went on to earn her master's of arts in professional sports administration from WSU in 1995. Rogers achieved academically on the Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll. Thus, she laid the groundwork for her current career as the Senior Account Executive with the Detroit Pistons/Detroit Shock. In 1996, she was named Employee of the Year with the organization. "I want to thank Wayne State University, the entire athletic department staff and Gary Bryce (my coach at the time), for allowing me the wonderful opportunity to be a student-athlete at WSU. I'd also like to thank the Hall of Fame committee. I am honored and humbled by what you have bestowed upon me."
